At its 271st Session (March 1998) the Governing Body decided to place the question of safety and health in agriculture on the agenda of the 88th Session (2000) of the International Labour Conference. In accordance with article 39 of the Standing Orders of the Conference, which deals with the preliminary stages of the double discussion procedure, the Office drew up a preliminary report intended to serve as the basis for the first discussion of this question. This report contains the introduction to the question and an analysis of the law and practice in agriculture in various countries. It was accompanied by a questionnaire and communicated to the governments of the member States of the ILO. This report has been drawn up on the basis of the replies received.
